Piety is the Sixth Gift of the Holy Spirit. It is the culmination, the visible sign and the ripen fruit of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, fortitude, counsel and fear of the Lord. Piety is simply rendering what is due to God and others. What do we render? Honor. Piety is the heart of worship. The PAPA PRAYER or the PRAYER FOR PRIESTS does exactly that. It speaks volumes and in numerous ways on how we honor the Lord and our neighbors. Piety according to St. Thomas Aquinas is a Work of Mercy in both senses: corporal as well as spiritual.
