A reading from the Book of the Prophet Daniel 2:31-45
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 21:5-11
REFLECTION: In reflecting on today’s readings, I’m reminded that nothing in the temporal order of this life, past or present, endures forever. Our Lord Jesus, reminded his disciples that:
“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my word shall not pass away.” (Mark 13:31).
St. Paul’s letter to the Colossians reminds them – and us - that,
“If then you have been raised with Christ (through Baptism), seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” (Col. 3:1-4)
Our Heavenly Father knows that in this life there are natural cares and necessities for ourselves, our family, and those in need; however, we must not lose site of the things that are above. God made us to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in Heaven. Jesus has already prepared a place for those who believe in Him. This is essentially the good news and why we, as his disciples, must proclaim it to all nations. His kingdom endures forever!
