"The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.
Go on your way;
behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.
Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals;
and greet no one along the way.
Into whatever house you enter,
first say, 'Peace to this household.'
If a peaceful person lives there,
your peace will rest on him;
but if not, it will return to you.
Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you,
for the laborer deserves payment.
Do not move about from one house to another.
Whatever town you enter and they welcome you,
eat what is set before you,
cure the sick in it and say to them,
'The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.'"
REFLECTION
he sent ahead of him in pairs
to every town and place he intended to visit.
As I sat there listening to my teenage grandaughter singing in front of an audience, I knew that I would never be able, even if I had the talent, to sing in front of strangers.
Fear is a powerful force; it can be a source of fight or flight. On a secular side, it is our confident mind over our fear of failure. In the Kingdom of God, the fear of God keeps us from the fear of failure. A healthy fear of God leads us away from depending on ourselves, seeking self achievement and the plaudits that go with it. Imagine living all for Him and putting aside our pride and worldly possessions.
Time to step out of our comfort zone, trusting in God's love. He did not promise us that it would be easy, but that we will not be alone. St Luke was such an example.
St Luke or Doctor Luke, once he learned about Jesus, devoted his time with drawings, stories and supporting his friend, Theophilus, to know the truth, about Jesus, the just and merciful Son of God, who came to save the world. He alone put into writing the account of the Annunciation, the birth of Jesus, and contributed to the writings of the Acts of the Apostles, especially with the witness of the Ascension. He left his medical profession and accompanied St Paul in his travels. St Luke had the privilege of being with Mary and writing her accounts of the visitation, birth of Jesus, circumcision and presentation in the Temple. St Luke died of old age. He is the patron saint of artists and physicians.
