FRIDAY OF THE NINTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 5, 2020 MEMORIAL OF SAINT BONIFACE

A reading from the holy Gospel accoding to Mark 12:35-37

As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said,

“How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David?

David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said:

The Lord said to my lord,

‘Sit at my right hand

until I place your enemies under your feet.’

David himself calls him ‘lord’;

so how is he his son?”

The great crowd heard this with delight.

REFLECTION: ... "David himself calls him ‘lord’;

so how is he his son?"

The teaching was that the Messiah would be coming from the House of David. He would be the son of David. The ruler of the Israelites, therefore, would be a human ruler, with faults, imperfections and failures.

However, Jesus asks the question, “David himself calls him lord (Psalm 110) so how is he his son?”

Imagine being told that what you have been taught, what you have learned, what you have understood is not correct. It is difficult discerning new teachings from a new person you have known for a short time. Jesus's preachings were different from their beliefs handed down by parents, synagogue teachings, the scriptures, and by word of mouth.

You can imagine why the Jewish people might be confused.

This is what happened.

The Messiah of God took human form and is both truly human and fully divine. No sin, no imperfections, no failures. One Divine Person who brings about our salvation and healing and yet fully human, doing the work of one of us

We need to ponder on this.

God Bless You
