MEMORIAL OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS SEPTEMBER 15, 2021

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Jn 19:25-27

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

REFLECTION:

On the Cross, Jesus invites us to participate in His death, and "Standing by the Cross of Jesus were His Mother and His Mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary of Magdalene".

Jesus was not scared of death but was scared of dying as was evidenced in the Garden of Gethsemane. He, while humiliated and tortured on the Cross, was kept company during His dire duress by His constant and compassionate friends and family; accompanying Him as He was dying --loving Him til the end.

Where were all His followers? Where were His apostles and the other disciples? Where were those who were blessed by His miracles?

All were Hiding....except St John.

His Mother spoke no words. She had given Him life and was now suffering as He was giving up His life.

Let us stand by His Mother, accompany her in her sorrows and her sacrifice of Her Son so that we could be saved.

Thank you, Mother Mary, for all you have done for us and for showing us the power of silence.

God Bless You
