Gospel
Mark 6:53-56
After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.
Reflection
This quote from the Gospel stood out to me, "whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed". The desperation and faith of these people is what stuck out to me the most. They knew that even the slightest touch, just a graze of Jesus's cloak could bring them total healing. It makes me wonder, do we turn to Jesus with the same trust level of trust and faith? Do we believe, as they did, that Jesus has the power to heal us not just physically, but spiritually? Just as the people sought to touch just a section Jesus's cloak for healing, do we seek out Jesus in the confessional for our own healing spiritually? I think it is all too easy to ignore and forget about God's mercy freely offered through the sacrament of reconciliation. However, He is always ready to restore us when we turn to Him with contrite hearts, all we need to do is come to Him and reach out in faith.
