MEMORIAL SAINT JOHN OF THE CROSS, SATURDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT, DECEMBER 14, 2024

ST JOHN OF THE CROSS

Gospel

Mt 17:9a, 10-13

As they were coming down from the mountain,

the disciples asked Jesus,

"Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

He said in reply, "Elijah will indeed come and restore all things;

but I tell you that Elijah has already come,

and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased.

So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands."

Then the disciples understood

that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

REFLECTION

"So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands."

Obedience and a trustful faith can be hard. Past present and future are connected and what happened in Jesus' time is happening now. We each have a part to play in the journey with His family-a present to live out His will and a future to live in communion in His glory.

The signs are all here, the advice is given. Written and lived out by many who have followed, became leaders and have handed the torch to us.

Why did God create us? Why do we live in a world that battles Satan 24/7? I don't know but what I do know and believe are His promises, His actions and the inner voice talking to me. How many have rebelled and walked away? Too many to not join the battle for His Kingdom.

Follow the Golden Rule, work on those deadly sins with prayer and sacrifice.

Seek the saint of today. St John of the Cross shows us by his example, writings and guidance: Do His will, strive for meekness, humility, withdraw from earthly things, abandon evil, do good, seek peace, no grumbling, follow Jesus to Calvary, love your neighbor, suffer for God, and be joyful.

God Bless You
