MEMORIAL ST LUCY, FRIDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT, DECEMBER 13, 2024

St Lucy

Gospel

Mt 11:16-19

Jesus said to the crowds:

"To what shall I compare this generation?

It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another,

'We played the flute for you, but you did not dance,

we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.'

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said,

'He is possessed by a demon.'

The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said,

'Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,

a friend of tax collectors and sinners.'

But wisdom is vindicated by her works."

REFLECTION

"But wisdom is vindicated by her works."

When we follow the Lord we will have the light of life. How many times do we hear that, but yet, many find their roots in things, places, people and other gods. It is like those plant commercials--here is a plant with no nutrition, no watering and no sunlight. Guess what it looks like and one knows it will not get better if there is no intervention. Then there is this blooming plant/tree with strong limbs, beautiful flowers and healthy looking. Someone has taken care of it and years of future beauty await it. Its leaves never fade.

Stay with us, we pray, because our souls are full of darkness and it is a necessity that you alone can nurture us and show us the light. St Lucy is the patron saint of blindness. She is pictured with her eyes on a platter; history has it that her eyes were gouged after refusing to lose her virginity. She was no lukewarm warrior but one whom we might want to associate with, pray with and ask for her intervention. She will lead us to the light.

Lukewarm people drain others with their lack of interest, negligence, and emptiness. There is no satisfaction for him. And we are to pray for them to rediscover Jesus who came to us on Christmas Day for our salvation and redemption.

God Bless You
