A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mk 8:1-10
In those days when there again was a great crowd without anything to eat,Jesus summoned the disciples and said,“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three daysand have nothing to eat.If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will collapse on the way,and some of them have come a great distance.”His disciples answered him, “Where can anyone get enough breadto satisfy them here in this deserted place?”Still he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?”They replied, “Seven.”He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then, taking the seven loaves he gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to distribute, and they distributed them to the crowd. They also had a few fish.He said the blessing over themand ordered them distributed also. They ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over–seven baskets. There were about four thousand people. He dismissed the crowd and got into the boat with his disciplesand came to the region of Dalmanutha.
REFLECTION
"have nothing to eat"
QB asked for 1 1/2 sandwiches, 1 cookie, 1 cucumber as a snack and 2 water bottles. ZB asked for 1/2 sandwich, 1 cookie, no snacks and one water bottle. A handwritten note, "I love you" on a napkin finished off the masterpiece lunch box. The needs of both children were met and off they went to school.
God is present in every detail of our lives: Present in what we do, in the people we meet and in the situations we find ourselves.
We have our chosen vocations in life. We should be aware of what is important to our family, work and neighbors. It is best to be attentive and attuned to their needs and be awake enough to follow all the different requests. When an immediate necessity challenges us we "step up" and do the best we can.
Have faith, abandon ourselves to His Will, and He will see what we need. His heart is moved with pity for us, and for the sake of our well being and happiness He renews us each day.
Pray by breathing in Jesus and slowly exhaling Jesus. This prayer can be done many times throughout the day. Knowing that God listens to us and when we ask for anything in the Name of Jesus according to His Will, we can, in confidence, know that He answers us.
In a larger scale, PAPA Joe is a ministry that feeds the hungry children. Right now PAPA is concentrating on the children in Venezuela. Jesus notices the hungry have nothing to eat. Food donations are always accepted. Please contact us at PAPA@papamio.org for more details.
