SATURDAY OF THE TWENTY-SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, OCTOBER 12, 2024

Gospel

LK 11:27-28

While Jesus was speaking,

a woman from the crowd called out and said to him,

“Blessed is the womb that carried you

and the breasts at which you nursed.”

He replied, “Rather, blessed are those

who hear the word of God and observe it.”

REFLECTION

 “Rather, blessed are those

who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Once a month I have a Rachel Day. With my friend, Rachel, we explore the world. (At least within a comfortable radius around the Houston area). We once ventured north to Austin and that was a long day.

This past Sunday was my Rachel Day—one whole day once a month spent with my friend RH. We both enjoy church bazaars and so we went to LaMarque Texas to the Queen of Peace Church bazaar. It’s a small community. We indulged in Filipino egg rolls, tacos, funnel cakes and watched beautiful young girls in their colorful costumes dance a Mexican folk dance.

Loteria (Mexican bingo) was going strong when we left. Rachel is a kindred spirit. The Queen of Peace Church community were a kindred spirit. Love thrived in this community not so much that we all knew our faith and could speak the same lingo, prayed the same prayers , but they all seemed to have a transformation self evident by their composure, attitudes and helpfulness. Love was thriving.

We are meant to be like God: think, act and do as Christ living in us. In this month of the rosary, may we recite it daily or several times a day, not sluggishly, lazily, speedily or even blabbering, but with careful thought and contemplation so we can see its transformative power in us.

“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

God bless you
