Many signs and wonders were done among the people at the hands of the apostles.
They were all together in Solomon’s portico. None of the others dared to join them, but the people esteemed them.
Yet more than ever, believers in the Lord, great numbers of men and women, were added to them.
Thus they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and mats so that when Peter came by, at least his shadow might fall on one or another of them.
A large number of people from the towns in the vicinity of Jerusalem also gathered, bringing the sick and those disturbed by unclean spirits, and they were all cured.
REFLECTION
A few years ago a family member told me about his ponderings in regards of this reading. He was wondering why miracles were not as prevalent as "back then", back to the times of the Apostles. How come we don't see people being cured of their ailments or their demons driven away en masse, and in the news.
I had no clue then, but I might have an inkling now.
We live in an era of great comfort and entertainment. Even the poorest person begging in the street has some form of smartphone in their hands. Distraction comes at our fingertips.
The miracles I see are the church full on Sunday, bursting through the seams with people searching for the truth. There is the miracle of youngsters showing to daily mass and looking into the rich traditions of the Catholic Church and not into what might be shiny and new. I see them praying the rosary and being very vocal about pro-life and pro-family issues when my generation at their age was just partying, and the ones before me silent. Our parish also witnessed the miracle of over a 100 catechumens being baptized this Easter vigil because of their thirst to know Jesus.
The miracle is the people searching for Christ and the Truth in such an epicurean and hedonistic era. God is giving humanity the grace to look for Him. He is here, He even gave us His Divine Mercy to learn to trust in Him completely.
Am I open to listen to His voice and follow? Or I am very comfortable staring at my phone while it entertains and distracts me every second of the day?
