THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 12, 2021 OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Lk 3:10-18

The crowds asked John the Baptist, “What should we do?” He said to them in reply, “Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.” Even tax collectors came to be baptized and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?” He answered them, “Stop collecting more than what is prescribed.” Soldiers also asked him, “And what is it that we should do?” He told them, “Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse anyone, and be satisfied with your wages.” Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” Exhorting them in many other ways, he preached good news to the people.

REFLECTION

“And what is it that we should do?”

God gives you what you need for salvation.

Love forgives! Love encourages. Love carries you during rough times. Love gives you courage to move forward.

Is it a feeling, this love we talk about? Not really. Many people live in dryness but have serenity and joy in their hearts. And if we don’t want to lose that, we hold on tight, exhausting ourselves to keep the best relationship God offers us.

And how do you hold on?

John the Baptist tells us in the Gospel. Read carefully what the world tells you to do and cast aside that advice and heed John the Baptist and do the opposite of what the world says.

Be aware of the people around you. Are they sad and joyless? Pray for them and let them know they are not alone. If homeless, whatever the reason, donate food, give your extra pairs of shoes, clothes and coats.

Today is Gaudette Sunday-pink candle for the joy we have that Christmas is almost here. There are many who argue, squabble, and are in shock of the scandals of the Church. No problem. God constantly reminds us of His presence.

Nothing is impossible for God. Ask for peace, joy, help, and a faith that grows daily.

Thought for the Day: Today is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She came to reassure that God remembers us. She is the Patroness of the Americas. Her heavenly Mother's tender love for San Juan Diego is the example we should follow. The affectionate name of "Juanito" is again a reminder that God loves us. Read her story and let Our Lady and her Son enrich our lives.

God Bless you.
