Gospel

Luke 4:14-22

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news of him spread throughout the whole region. He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.

He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,    because he has anointed me        to bring glad tidings to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives    and recovery of sight to the blind,        to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.

Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.

REFLECTION

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit

Whoever loves God must also love his brother. Left to our own, we imagine our individual emotional feelings when we think of love.

When we love someone we "will" to spend time with them-no sacrifice is too big and we do more for them because we love them. We seek them out and even can spend a whole day without much conversation. Just being with them is enough.

He who loves God follows His Commandments. Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, brings good news and shows us the workings of the Holy Spirit. We in turn through His Spirit share His love with one another. Christ, the Messiah, shows us through example, what loving our neighbor entails. God will not fail to transform us into His original work of creation if we imitate Jesus.

  • Do not hate.

  • Do not sin when dealing with others.

  • Do not get even.

  • Do not hold grudges.

  • Obey the commandments.

  • Give to the poor.

  • Bring the good news to the poor, the captives, the blind and the oppressed.

God's love is faithful, trustworthy, merciful and compassionate. Hope never fails because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. (Romans 5:3-5)

God Bless You
