A Gospel according to Lk 12:49-53
Jesus said to his disciples:
“I have come to set the earth on fire,
and how I wish it were already blazing!
There is a baptism with which I must be baptized,
and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!
Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.
From now on a household of five will be divided,
three against two and two against three;
a father will be divided against his son
and a son against his father,
a mother against her daughter
and a daughter against her mother,
a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
REFLECTION
"Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided."
After almost two years of hearing about Covid, and living it in our flesh we, the Catholic faithful, seem to be more divided than before it started.
We are almost at the point of "My Jesus" vs. "Your Jesus". "My" belief vs. "Yours".
We as Catholics are very polarized. Either follow the suggestions of Our Holy Father, Pope Francis and Bishop Gomez and the USCCB; or we follow the ones by Bishop Strickland; and others standing in the middle of this debate dodging their heads and not knowing what to do.
So we see Bishop against Bishop, priest against priest, faithful against faithful. This division is only hurting our Church, and making each one of us distrust each other.
Whether you or I are pro or against Covid vaccine now is besides the point. We have allowed all the noise of the world to disturb our inner peace, and muffle the Voice of God. We have allowed opinions to guide us instead of the Truth.
Instead, let us find a quiet place, take a deep breath, and ask ourselves the PAPA WAWW Principle:
Where I am?
Am I where I am?
What am I doing?
What am I thinking?
