TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 14, 2022

Olivia M. Bannan

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Lk 12:49-53

Jesus said to his disciples: "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."

REFLECTION

"Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division."

Sometimes families and friends can oppose and reject christian beliefs, conversion and a new Christ centered life. They will deride you, disinherit you or even avoid you. To many, embarrassment is what most bothers them.

I have many non Catholic friends, who ask me what have I been doing since retirement. I tell them about PAPA praying for priests to have zeal in loving Jesus and bringing more souls to heaven. At times I am met with interest, or a blank look or a look of "not interested".

I met two bank tellers who inquired about PAPA when I made deposits. Both were Catholic. One teller had a cousin who was just ordained a priest. He asked to pray for him: Father Jeffrey Merritt from the New Orleans Diocese.

With people I meet briefly I give them the PAPA business card and write my name on it. Then I ask them to visit our website.

On page 20 of our handbook, there is a section on how to recognize kindred souls? The kindred souls have three kindred spirits in them. FHL or Faith, Hope and Love.

A person who trusts others in God has faith, those who love to pray have hope and those who love the priesthood love the Holy Eucharist. And our part is to pray, use few words, pray the rosary daily, and study the handbook or the Internal Regulations, so as to be able to talk with them about PAPA.

Rules of thumb

The fewer words, the better.

More Prayer, more faith.

More faith, more confidence.

More confidence, more clarity.

More clarity, more trust.

More trust, more love.

More love, more Jesus.

Thus more love for Jesus, more love for His Priests.

We are to make the kindred spirit love Jesus more, Not PAPA.

Is it time to brush up on our PAPA skills and be a confident voice and tell all about how much we love Jesus? Join us this December 2-4 to learn more about PAPA in the Election Conference.

God Bless You
