Gospel

Mark 1:29-39

On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.”He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.”So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee.

REFLECTION

They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up.

There are many ways to pray--last week the leper showed us to prostrate before the Lord, humbly ask with confidence and hope that He can do all if He wishes.

This week we see the four disciples..Simon, Andrew, James and John..without hesitancy, immediately interceding for Peter's mother-in-law. Upon hearing, He approached her, grasped her hand and cured her.

There is an intimacy in a relationship-- between parent and child, between dear friends that is not present with mere acquaintances. It all begins with an invitation to follow Him and once we say, "Yes", we are in a world filled with mercy, transparency and peace. He knows us, and hears our prayers, with our heart speaking for us.

Jesus became human like us in everyway except sin. As the Son of God, He conquered death by destroying it. All was done because of love. It is this love that tells us all about Him.

A few days ago, a dear PAPA priest died in his sleep at the age of 87. An ex marine, Father Ed, spoke with conviction, holding back no punches and always being in the presence of the Holy Spirit. To many whom he brought back to God, he emphasized the importance of prayer and a personal relationship with God.

PAPA prays for priests to bring out the best in their vocation and help them grow in their faith, and to make it to heaven. Opening up to God we approach with humility, understanindg that pride has no business in our prayers. The Holy Spirit will make you aware of sorrows through His nudging. We merely allow Him to show us the way by allowing Him in our lives, conversing with Him as our souls are nourished, living in His holiness and love.

Please pray for the repose of Father Ed Wade and the many faithful priests who give their lives for His Kingdom.

God Bless You
