Gospel

Luke 1:39-56

Mary set outand traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariahand greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor upon his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, and has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever."Mary remained with her about three monthsand then returned to her home.

REFLECTION

"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor upon his lowly servant."

St Francis of Assisi said, "Blessed is he who expecteth nothing for he shall enjoy everything." We had no participation in our creation. We did not plan it, earn it nor deserve it. It was a gift from God, His life given to us. Which brings us joy?... A purchase we make with a click, window shopping and something catches our eye, or a gift given by someone who took time to shop or create something special for us? I know my answer.

When we see the origin of something, the gift takes on a totally different dimension. It becomes more significant, even more extraordinary. How can we think that a living human being who is nourished, growing and resting in his (her) mother has no value? Life is joy and no one should take it away.

Today commemorates the anniversary of the Supreme Court 1973 Roe vs Wade decision. Today is a day of prayer and penance for the Catholic Church for the horror of abortion. On June 24, 2022, the Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Organization decision overturned Roe v Wade. The battle has shifted to the states. The war is not over.

PAPA prays for the nascent babies. Please join us in prayer as we reflect on this day of prayer and repentance. Pray also the JESUS prayer, fast, say the rosary and reflect on our views on life, the rights of all and how we can make a difference.

God Bless You
