The Lord said:“Woe to you Pharisees! You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb, but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God. These you should have done, without overlooking the others. Woe to you Pharisees! You love the seat of honor in synagogues and greetings in marketplaces. Woe to you! You are like unseen graves over which people unknowingly walk.”
Then one of the scholars of the law said to him in reply,“Teacher, by saying this you are insulting us too.”And he said, “Woe also to you scholars of the law! You impose on people burdens hard to carry, but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them.”
REFLECTION
You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb, but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God
PAPA prays for priests to grow in zeal for the Lord, giving of themselves, with their hearts attentive to God. In consecrating ourselves to God, we, likewise, should be rid of haugtiness, pride and disordered love of ourselves, others and things. In striving to do what is good, sometimes, the details of how we accomplish things become a source of pride, misdirection of what is right and wrong, and diverse interests distract us from true good, love, peace and rest. People actually waste hours with details, rules and regulations, that they don't find time to dedicate to prayer.
In searching for God, we give everything to find "Everything". (Blessed Carlo Acutis) We are to walk in friendship with God so as to spend eternity with Him. In dealing with others there is the possibility that we see them as obstructions in our walk with God. Remembering we all are made in the image of God, we should help those in need of prayers and assistance. Roadblocks of too many rules and regulations can obscure the more important matters of love of God and love of neighbor.
May we avoid the situation of too many things to do and forgetting the condition of our hearts for God.
